Trump Calls Selection of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran's New Leader a "Big Mistake," Does Not Rule Out Seizing Iranian Oil

NBC News reports that President Donald Trump described the selection of Mojtaba Khamenei as the new leader of the Islamic Republic as a "big mistake," saying: "I think they made a big mistake. I don't know if it will last." In another part of the interview, Trump did not rule out the possibility of seizing Iran's oil, but said it is still too early to talk about such an action. He added that "certainly people have talked about it." NBC News also notes that any US action to control part of Iran's oil could put pressure on Washington's relations with China, as approximately 80% of Iran's crude oil exports go to China.
