Trump: I Want to Help Iranian People But They Must Be in a System That Allows for It

At a press conference, Trump was asked whether ending the conflict after completing military objectives constitutes a betrayal of the Iranian people he promised to help. Reporter: "Thank you, Mr. President. You promised the Iranian people that you would help them, but it seems you want to end this fight after completing your military objectives. Isn't this a betrayal of the people?" Trump: "Do I help them? I would like to, if they could behave properly. But they have been very threatening. You know, they are great people. Their population is amazing — smart, brilliant, energetic. Wonderful people. I would like to help them, but they need to be in a system that allows for help. And right now they're in a system that only allows defeat, and I don't want that. And I want a system that leads to long years of peace. And if we can't get there, it's better to finish it right now."
