Pentagon Confirms Gen. Randy George Resigns as US Army Chief of Staff
The US Department of Defense issued a statement confirming the resignation of General Randy George as Army Chief of Staff.
The Pentagon statement read: "General Randy A. George will retire with immediate effect from his position as the 40th Chief of Staff of the Army. The Department of War is grateful for General George's decades of service to our country. We wish him success in retirement."
Earlier, CBS reported that Pete Hegseth, US Secretary of Defense, had asked General Randy George, Army Chief of Staff, to step down from his position.
One source told CBS News that Hegseth wants someone to replace General George who can implement his and President Trump's vision for the Army.
General George has service records in Iraq and Afghanistan and was previously the senior military assistant to Lloyd Austin, former US Secretary of Defense. He had been scheduled to retire next year.
