Netanyahu Press Conference: Israel-US Changing Middle East Equations; Backs Reza Pahlavi Transitional Government

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at a press conference on Thursday (March 19 / 28 Esfand) that Israel and the United States are changing the equations of the Middle East. He said current military operations in Iran are being conducted with the goal of "eliminating the nuclear and missile threat" and creating conditions for, in his words, "the Iranian people to take their fate into their own hands." Netanyahu said Israel has targeted infrastructure and industries related to Iran's weapons capabilities, with "more work" still remaining. He also expressed support for creating alternative energy transfer routes outside the Strait of Hormuz and constructing pipelines through the Arabian Peninsula. Citing the lack of transparency about succession after Ali Khamenei, he said he does not know who is actually running Iran, and added that if Iran's government falls, Hezbollah will "cease to exist." Netanyahu expressed hope for convergence between "weakening the regime and an uprising of the Iranian people."
