Macron Urges Iran to Halt Attacks, Restore Hormuz Navigation, and Free French Nationals After Call with Pezeshkian

French President Emmanuel Macron announced on X that he spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, emphasizing "the absolute necessity of ending unacceptable attacks against countries of the region, preserving energy and civilian infrastructure, and restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz." Macron added: "I asked Iran to engage in good faith in negotiations so that a path to de-escalation can be opened and a framework can be established to address the international community's expectations regarding Iran's nuclear and missile program, as well as its destabilizing regional activities." Macron concluded: "Finally, I asked Iran to authorize, as quickly as possible, the return of our compatriots Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris to France."
