EU Commission President Von der Leyen: "No Tears" for Iranian Regime, Warns of War's Unintended Consequences
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, speaking at her press conference in Brussels, addressed recent developments in Iran, emphasizing that in the current situation, Europe should focus on existing realities rather than debating whether this war is "optional or mandatory." She stated plainly that "no tears should be shed for the Iranian regime" and stressed that the Iranian people deserve freedom, dignity, and the right to self-determination.
Von der Leyen, while warning about instability and potential dangers during and after the war, noted that this regional conflict has already produced unintended consequences in the areas of energy, trade, finance, and refugee displacement. She called on the international community to see today's world's realities as they are.
